Laszlo Bock

Laszlo Bock is a serial entrepreneur and the former Chief Human Resources Officer of Google. He also serves as an advisor at BetterUp.

Laszlo is the Founder and Chairman of Humu, a human resources technology company that was acquired in 2023. He is also the Co-Founder and Chairman of Gretel.ai, a synthetic data company that is pioneering "provable privacy." He is an active investor in, and advisor to, numerous start-ups and venture capital firms, as well a past coach to dozens of Fortune 500 CEOs, CIOs and CHROs. He has over 1M followers on LinkedIn and his articles on resume writing average over 2M readers each. 

From 2006 to 2016, Laszlo was the Senior Vice President of People Operations (CHRO) at Google/Alphabet, and a member of the company's Executive Management Group, growing the company from 6,000 to 72,000 employees and $90 billion in revenues. During his tenure, Google was recognized over 150 times as an exceptional employer, including being named the #1 Best Company to Work for in the United States seven times. Laszlo invented the field of “People Analytics”, the application of academic-quality rigor and Google-paced innovation to people management. He also led the development of Google Jobs, the only technology at Google developed outside the engineering function to be integrated into core Google Search. In 2010 he was named “Human Resources Executive of the Year” and in 2015 the “HR Professional of the Decade.” 

Prior to Google, Laszlo was an executive at GE Capital and an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company. Prior to earning his MBA, he held a variety of roles, including having worked as a professional actor. He (briefly) was ranked #1 in the world in the video game Assassin’s Creed. He has previously served on the Board of Heidrick & Struggles (HSII) and as a Trustee of Pomona College. 

His New York Times bestselling book, WORK RULES! Insights from Inside Google to Transform How You Live and Lead, has been published in more than 25 languages, garnered numerous “book of the year” honors, and sold over 750,000 copies. Laszlo has donated 100% of the proceeds to charities focusing on supporting immigrants, education, and veterans. 

Laszlo earned a bachelor's degree in international relations from Pomona College, graduating in three years, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Laszlo is a refugee, emigrating from communist Romania in the 1970s.
